Living at Kennispark Enschede
As the first residential building in the Kennispark area, this development plays a key role in transforming the public space. It contributes to a vibrant and attractive environment, even before the surroundings are fully developed. By combining collective amenities with an open and accessible design, the building responds to the evolving needs of the area. The ground floor (plinth) is central to this, designed to be transparent, flexible, and welcoming. A colonnade along the square provides a gentle transition to the building, while the semi-public inner garden offers a sheltered, green oasis for both residents and passers-by.
Open and permeable design
Until now, the area has mainly been characterized by closed buildings surrounded by parking lots. The new urban plan offers opportunities to change this. Located on a new public square, the residential building makes the most of its position. Its permeable structure naturally draws people in and encourages interaction between inside and out. The ground floor includes several passages: from west to east through the main entrance and raised gallery, through gateways to the courtyard and bicycle storage, and along the north side past the shared space. On the south side, a gate connects the garden to the square, while the transparent plinth accommodates commercial and community-oriented functions.
Clear layout
Commercial functions are located in the plinth, especially on the northwest corner and along the west, south, and east facades. These spaces are clearly visible and accessible via multiple entrances. The residential units are accessed via the main entrance on the west side and a secondary service entrance on the east. The U-shaped layout, with open galleries surrounding the green courtyard, gives the building a lively and welcoming character — a valuable addition to Kennispark.
