Feb 1, 2026 - SeARCH Wins Tender for Circo – a new CIRcular and COllective apartment building for Nieuwegein.

SeARCH, together with Heutink Groep, DS Landscape Architects, DGMR, and Pieters Bouwtechniek, has won the tender for City Block C1 along the Spoorstede. Circo brings circular construction, climate adaptation, and collective living together in a single future-proof design for Nieuwegein.

Circo will be realized as a hybrid timber structure, featuring recycled bricks, green façades, roof gardens, and integrated solar panels. The U-shaped layout opens toward the adjacent park, ensuring optimal daylight, views, and a strong connection between the living spaces and the surrounding landscape.

With its stepped massing, human scale, and warm material palette, Circo creates a careful transition between the city’s urban character and the surrounding residential neighborhoods. In doing so, the project not only delivers sustainable housing but also contributes to a green and vibrant Nieuwegein.
